Advanced Placement (AP) exams are standardized international subject-specific exams at the level of the first to second year of foreign universities with worldwide validity.  AP exams are recognized by universities around the world in the admissions process.  Some universities also provide course credits. You can register for the exams with CTM.

CTM  administers AP exams (our six-digit code is 719030). CTM also has a status of designated organization (our four-digit code is 7934) which can receive AP exam results for students just as the University of Oxford or Princeton University or any other university.

CTM instructors help students prepare for AP exams.  During the school year, CTM instructors will evaluate and monitor your progress, help and provide feedback.  At the end of your AP course in April, your CTM instructor will give you a grade, which accurately predicts what you should expect on the AP exam.  The close correlation between the grade from a CTM instructor and the AP exams attests to the high professional standards of the program.

How AP Exams Differ from International Baccalaureate (IB)?

AP depends only on the student while IB depends on a time consuming and costly school certification process. For Czech and Slovak public school students, AP exams are the only opportunity to compare their academic accomplishments in global competition and receive an internationally recognized credentials. The other opportunity - IB - is available only to students of elite private schools and is much more expensive.

AP Exams Are Superior to IB because they are:

• the only opportunity for public school students to obtain internationally recognized high school credentials 
• substantially more flexible
• financially more affordable

AP and IB are the only two comparable programs with global reach.

When to study AP courses and take the AP exams?

The sooner the better.  You can start in the first year of high school.  Some students may take one or two courses, others may aspire for the AP Capstone Diploma, equivalent to the International Baccalaureate.

To obtain the AP Capstone Diploma, students accumulate credits from four AP exams during a four-year study period, in the penultimate year they complete the AP Seminar and in the last year the AP Research.

If you want to submit your AP exam results for university admissions, you need to take the AP exam no later than your senior year.

When and how to register for the exam?

Students register for AP exams from mid-October to early November (standard registration deadline). Students who study CTM AP courses are automatically registered for AP exams by CTM.  Note, the AP exam fee is not included in the course fee.

It is also possible to register for AP exams during the late registration period from mid-October to the end of February, but the registration fee is higher.

Not only students who have completed CTM Online courses, but also students who have prepared for the exam independently or at their school can register for the AP exam with CTM.  Registration is open to students from all countries.

CTM is open for AP exam taking for students from all over the region who have prepared for the AP exams through CTM or independently.

Where can you take AP exams?

CTM administers AP exams in the Czech Republic.  Students are issued certificates needed to have AP exams recognized by high schools and universities.

When taking AP exams, students must state the CTM AP code 719030, designating CTM as their high school.  CTM also has the status of a so-called designated organization (our code is 7934). This entitles CTM to receive AP exam results just as a university.  CTM can then issue students necessary certificates and confirmations.  When and which code is important for you, you will find out when sitting for your AP exam.

What is the format of the AP exams?

Most AP exams will be taken digitally from 2025.

AP exams are either fully digital, meaning you take all parts of the AP exam on your laptop, or hybrid, meaning you take one part of the AP exam on your laptop and read the questions for the other part on your laptop, but write your answers on a paper answer book provided by the proctor—the teacher who administers the AP exam. Only a few AP exams are taken in pen-and-paper format only.

• Digital—students take the AP exam on their own laptop
• Hybrid—students take the AP exam using their own laptop, which displays the exam questions, and they record their answers on exam sheets
• Pen-and-paper—students record their answers on exam sheets that also contain the exam questions.
