Why do stars twinkle? Is it possible to fall into a black hole? Will the sun ever stop shining? Since the first glimpse of the night sky, humans have been fascinated with the stars, planets, and universe that surrounds us.

This online course will introduce students to the study of astronomy, including its history and development, basic scientific laws of motion and gravity, the concepts of modern astronomy, and the methods used by astronomers to learn more about the universe. Additional topics include the solar system, the Milky Way and other galaxies, and the sun and stars. Using online tools, students will examine the life cycle of stars, the properties of planets, and the exploration of space.

Hvězdy byly prvními objekty, které lidé pozorovali na noční obloze. Byly zdrojem bájí, pověstí, ale i nepřekonatelnými pomocníky při cestování.

Student’s Experience

As for the course, I think it is very well developed.
In terms of content, I am very satisfied, because the lessons are systematically organized and there is nothing that would not make sense. Therefore, I would rate this course very positively. I learned a lot of astronomy things that I will be able to use in the future. At the same time, I think that my English has improved at least a little.
I also really enjoyed the lab work, although I sometimes didn't catch up with them. I mainly enjoyed the video, because I understand it better.

I personally really enjoyed this course. I liked the format because it was easy to navigate through the assignments and I always knew when my work was due. I also liked that all the work was posted right away instead of being uploaded gradually, meaning that I could access the course and work ahead at any time. It was also interesting to be able to see just how much time the course had taken me. Another thing that I enjoyed was being completely free to work on the assignments whenever I wanted to, instead of having to do them at the exact same time every week. Lastly, I liked that I could always check what assignment I had due next and that I could see my overall grade throughout the course.
As for the actual content of the course, I found it very informative and easy to understand and take notes on. It was also very interesting and I learned a lot of new things I didn't know before. I enjoyed watching the videos for the lab assignments as they did a good job by adding extra interesting information into the syllabus of the course. My favorite units were the inner and outer planet units, just because that was what I was most enthusiastic to learn about when initially starting the course. I also liked that the tests were multiple choice as it made completing them easier and less time-consuming. In conclusion, I loved the course and would love to come back to CTM next year.

I really liked this course, because it was fun to learn about the Universe. If i would have more time for it, it would be better, but this was caused by school and by my hobby's. I think that the assignments where fun. I also think, that the teacher was great, nice and positive. I was happy to do this course.
