On Exam Date
- AP Exam is subject to rules set by the College Board
- AP Exam requires physical presence; also for some exams students need to submit their assignments during the school year (e.g. AP Computer Science Principles)
- AP Exam takes about 2-4 hours depending on the subject
- AP Exam has two parts: “multiple-choice” section scored by computer and “free response” section scored by AP Reading held during the first two weeks in June. Specifically appointed and experienced high school and university educators do this part.
- The total scores from the free-response section and the multiple-choice section are combined to form a composite score. These composite scores are then translated into a 5-point scale using statistical processes designed to ensure that, for example, a 3 this year reflects the same level of achievement as a 3 last year.
AP Exam Results
In late July AP Exam results become available to students, parents, participating organizations and universities.
AP Exam scores are a weighted combination on the multiple-choice section and the free-response section. The final score is reported on a 5-point scale as follows:
- 5: extremely well qualified
- 4: well-qualified
- 3: qualified
- 2: possibly qualified
- 1: no recommendation
IMPORTANT! CTM students need to enter designated code for CTM 7934 on the Exam sheet to receive the official AP Exam score certificates from CTM. Only than can CTM deliver official AP Exam scores including CTM letter to the postal address provided by the student in the CTM student profile.
Students can view their AP scores at apscore.org starting in July of the year that exams were administered. They need to set up a Student Account on the College Board website.
Students could print results of their AP Exams from College Board account. However, these are considered unofficial. Some universities may require direct confirmation from College Board and may consider unofficial result insufficient.
